HMRC Registration:
Eastbourne CLT is an Exempt Charity, registered with HMRC for Gift Aid and also for VAT purposes. Exempt charities are non profits regulated by an alternative regulator to the Charity Commission, which in the case of a Community Benefit Society is the Financial Conduct Authority. Our legal structure enables us to trade and deal in property.

Eastbourne CLT has been with Metro Bank (Eastbourne) since 2019
Elected Board of Trustees:
Eastbourne CLT holds its Annual General Meeting every October to elect a Board of Directors (known as Trustees). All trustee nominations are volunteers and members of Eastbourne CLT who have paid a £1 non-withdrawable share.

Officers:
Trustees are appointed to responsible roles, such as Chair, Treasurer and Secretary at the first meeting following an AGM and they are staff who manage the day to day running of the charity and its administration.
Office Premises:
We have no paid staff and do not own any office premises. Staff work from home and come together for trustee meetings every six weeks.
Members:
ECLT had 196 subscribed members as at October 2025.
Community Owned
Any Eastbourne CLT assets are community-owned jointly by all its members under an asset lock clause in its Rules. It means that our houses when built cannot be sold on the open market and will always remain affordable.
